My visit to Eva Walker Park
After the program, a family approached me. One of the kiddos held a copy of I am Lola and quietly asked me to sign it for her. She also wanted her mom to take a photo of us together. She lingered after that and Mom asked if she wanted to tell me about why she likes the book. With Mom's help, the story emerged. After a very rough school year filled with big emotions, their family found I am Lola in our local bookstore. Lola's message of resilience and how important it is to acknowledge your big emotions helped this wonderful kiddo and her family. Hearing how Lola's story made a difference makes me proud to be part of the Horse Tales team.
One of the librarians in the Bealeton branch after the program told me:
A parent said that this has been a wonderful experience for their child. Reading a book, then seeing the author hold the book while leading a program, hearing a song from one of the books and neighing along with it, and then seeing Lola and getting to pet her made the story very real.
